Canadian Federation of Students

The CFS organizes students on a democratic, co-operative basis in advancing student campaigns and interests. Helps bring students together to discuss and to achieve necessary educational, administrative or legislative change wherever decision-making affects students.

BC Civil Liberties Association

The BCCLA works to “promote, defend, sustain, and extend civil liberties and human rights in British Columbia and Canada.” This is an excellent resource to inform yourself on civil liberties and human rights issues in Canada and explore their many handbooks and resources on Canadian fundamental rights and freedoms.

 

Progressive Women’s Leadership

Progressive Women’s Leadership offers learning and collaboration among professional women seeking the skills to further develop their careers. Check out their excellent free resources and Leadership E-Guides for skills development on a variety of leadership topics.

QMUNITY

QMUNITY provides “safe spaces for LGBTQ/2S people and their allies to fully self-express while feeling welcome and included.” QMUNITY offers Queer Competency Training, access to support groups/counselling services, educational materials, and opportunities to get involved in the LGBTQ/2S community.

 

Anti-Racism Resources

BC Federation of Students

Aims to catalyze social change to transform colonial narratives & impacts led by Indigenous ways of being. Workshops, resources, and access to the Decolonize First Workbook.

Indigenous Youth Internship Program

Every year, this program provides a 12 month paid internship for up to 25 young Indigenous British Columbians, ages 19 to 29. Supports Indigenous youth to develop their leadership skills and provides opportunities for Indigenous youth to contribute and improve relationship building between Indigenous communities/organizations and the provincial government.

 

Reclaiming Power and Place: The Final Report of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls

The National Inquiry’s Final Report reveals that persistent and deliberate human and Indigenous rights violations and abuses are the root cause behind Canada’s staggering rates of violence against Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA people. 

Indigenous Guardians Program

Indigenous-led Guardians programs empower communities to manage ancestral lands according to traditional laws and values. Guardians are employed as the “eyes on the ground” in Indigenous territories. They monitor ecological health, maintain cultural sites and protect sensitive areas and species. They play a vital role in creating land-use and marine-use plans. And they promote intergenerational sharing of Indigenous knowledge—helping train the next generation of educators, ministers and nation builders.

Nanki Nezulne

Nanki Nezulne (Our Two Spirits) is a health and wellness service offered through Carrier Sekani Family Services (CSFS). This program is for or adults (18+) who identify as LGBTQ2+ and/or additional gender and sexual orientated individuals.

The services are at NO COST and offer:

  • Social, emotional, and health related protective factors through community engagement and evidence-based practices

  • Encourage inclusivity and acceptance of LGBTQ2+ individuals

  • Outreach support, individual and group counselling

  • LGBTQ2+ education

  • Virtual events, activities and celebrations

Women and Politics London is a citizen-led initiative that looks to engage and increase the participation of women in the political landscape. We host social events, develop educational resources and tools, participate in political activities and connect women with their community and each other.

Elect Her: A Roadmap for Improving the Representation of Women in Canadian Politics

Women’s representation in Canadian politics has increased significantly since 1921 when the first woman, Agnes Macphail, was elected to the House of Commons. Despite their growing political participation, women represent only 35% of all legislators in Canada,1 and remain under-represented at all levels of government. Increasing women’s representation in electoral politics is essential because it can lead to greater gender equality and to better social, economic and political outcomes for all Canadians.
